Heroine: Lucy Liu Visits Victims of Pakistan Earthquake
What does Lucy Liu, Angelina Jolie and Meg Ryan have in common besides their big healthy paychecks and gorgeous looks that win a large audience. All 3 ladies have visited other parts of the world slumped in poverty, diseases and natural disaster. Despite their hectic work schedule and elegant country that they reside in, they gave it up fora few weeks to get into the lifes of victims of poverty in India (Meg Ryan), diseased children in Euthopia (Angelina Jolie) and the victims of earthquake in Pakistan (Lucy Liu).I am also proud to announce various contributions and donations from the likes of Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts during the tsunami incident in Indonesia and other disasters.
However, it is the episode on Oprah Prime Time last Sunday, 9 April 2006 on Astro that left a lasting impact on me, giving me the nudge to push myself harder for the betterment of society. Hearing how Lucy Liu recapped her experience in Pakistan and her compassion for the survivals there, eg. an old lady who lost her entire family, including her granchildren was seen crying by the earthquake area, worried that she now has noone to care for her. Children had to continue their education in tents built beside graveyards of their friends killed by the horrific incident.
Oprah asked Lucy, "What can we do?". She uttered words of kindness in between sobs of tears, telling all to spare the victims some small change just so that they can buy medication, food and tents to have a roof over them. "When America lost 4,000 people during the 911 incident, we felt a tremendous and unbearable loss. Imagine losing more than 70,000 people and that is the same feeling you will get when you see the state of people there. So spare your loose change, every bit counts.", spoken from a true hero at heart. A strong persona with a good heart.
